2018 Coaching Staff

John Scanlon -- Varsity Head Coach

Coach Scanlon's athletic background stems from being a multi-sport athlete in high school (football, cross-country, track, and ice hockey) and he continued to play hockey as a goalie through college. He started his lacrosse coaching experience with Fox Valley Lacrosse Club volunteering to coach the goalies and keep stats for his son's team. That same year, he volunteered as the NVHS Girls Lacrosse Club's statistician and he moved fulltime into coaching their goalies the following season. He has been the NVHS Girls Goalie Coach for the last six seasons and has also helped coach the JV team. Currently he is the goalie coach for Players 360. Coach Scanlon is US Lacrosse Level 3 certified in the Women's game and level 2 in the Men's game. He has been known to still get in the cage during the offseason in a local men's league.

Tegan McQuaid -- Varsity Assistant Coach

This is Coach McQuaid's first year teaching Social Studies at Neuqua Valley High School. She graduated from Indiana University in 2013, moved to Japan for a while to teach English, and then came back and received my teaching certification from Eastern Illinois University last spring. She was a student teacher at Metea Valley, and thrilled to receive her teaching, as well as coaching position here at Neuqua. She is not too far from home as she played Lacrosse in high school at Wheaton Warrenville South. She was also on the Speech team, and she is currently a Speech as well as Lacrosse coach. I look forward to the new season and meeting all of you. Can't wait to get started!

Kirstie Sherman -- JV Head Coach

Coach Kirstie's love for the game of lacrosse began in high school where she played defense on her high school team in Brattleboro, VT. Although she did not continue to play in college, she did play on a Lakeshore Lacrosse Adult league once moving to Chicagoland. Being part of that league allowed her to make connections that lead her to begin coaching.

Coach Kirstie has coached in many positions at the high school level including assistant JV coach, Head JV coach, and Assistant Varsity Coach. Starting at St. Francis High School in Wheaton in 2013 and continuing at Neuqua Valley High School where she has coached the past 4 years. During that time, Kirstie has also received her level 2 coaching certification through US lacrosse and has completed the class work for Level 3 certification which she plans to obtain this year.

In addition, Kirstie also has experience coaching at Players Indoor Sports and 1223 Lacrosse running player development programs and coaching youth recreational leagues.

Kirstie loves the game of lacrosse and her favorite parts about coaching is seeing young women develop a love for the game and improve their skills while doing so. Her coaching philosophy is one that she strives to develop well rounded, hard working leaders on and off the field. She enjoys both teaching the basics and building upon basic skills to develop great lacrosse players and teams.
